Courtney Wolfe is a journalism student who hopes to one day be a magazine editor. She is inspired by Elaine Welteroth and Laura Brown, journalists who adapt and find ways to thrive in this changing media landscape.
Courtney says growing up on a farm and showing cows at the county fair made her tough.
Amanda Kaplan is a journalism and fashion business student who dreams of being a digital news or social media editor for a fashion publication in New York City.
When she’s not writing or creating content for her blog, she can be found running miles along the lake or flowing at the yoga studio. Amanda says the quote “Do what makes your soul happy” inspires her to be tough.

Samantha Stahl is a graduate journalism student. She says growing up in a single-parent household has made her tough. Her mother is her biggest inspiration because she raised her children on her own and worked three jobs, all while never asking for help.
Sam wrote a book a few years ago, which is unpublished and took her over two years to write. Sam hopes some day all her work will pay off, and she will land a job as an editor for a major magazine in New York City.

Kate Lavin is a multimedia journalism and public relations student who hopes to apply these skills to the wine industry after she graduates.
Kate is most inspired by Jackie Spinner, a professor and war correspondent, because of her fearless drive. What makes Kate tough is recovering from a neck injury and competing in a cheer competition in high school.

James Tinsley is a journalism student with a concentration in magazine writing. He plans to work for a video game news outlet in the future.
He lives by the quote “Defeat is a state of mind; no one is ever defeated until defeat has been accepted as a reality,” by Bruce Lee. What makes him tough is that he does not get into needless fights.
Ciara Barnett is a magazine journalism and public relations student who plans on one day working in the book publishing industry.
She wants to bring more books into the world and hopes to write her own novel someday. Her go-to authors for inspiration are J.K. Rowling and Gillian Flynn. When she’s not reading or writing, Ciara is at home being a dog mom to her 1-year-old, Chance. She says rescuing her puppy from a shelter inspires her to be tough.

ANALISA TROFIMUK | Writer
Analisa Trofimuk is a journalism student who plans to work for a newspaper in Chicago.
A quote that inspires her to keep a positive mindset was written by Roald Dahl: “If you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.” Analisa says that battling her four-month-old nephew to take naps is what makes her tough.
Savannah Eadens is majoring in multimedia journalism and minoring in Latin American studies at Columbia College Chicago. She hopes to work as a foreign correspondent for Time Magazine or USA Today in the future.
Savannah is inspired by Alejandro Llanos, a foreign exchange student at her high school in Iowa, who taught her the mantra “Viva su vida” which means “Live your life.”
She’s tough because she is independent from her family and supports her own endeavors.

Monica Lofton is a multimedia sports journalism student who plans on working in sports television, for an organization like ESPN or CBS Sports, when she is done with school.
As an avid reader and writer, Monica looks up to Edgar Allen Poe. She is a perfectionist, and she strives to achieve complicated goals she sets for herself.

Nick Kuhlman is a magazine journalism student who also writes entertainment editorials for moviepilot.com.
As a music fan, he never fails to be inspired by the words of Whitesnake’s “Here I Go Again.” His extensive knowledge and practice of Krav Maga, boxing and MMA is what makes him the toughest guy in the room.

Aysha Ashley Househ is a broadcast journalism student who speaks both Arabic and English.
She lived in the Middle East for six years and the cultural impact has helped her become open-minded toward diverse groups. Aysha believes what makes her tough is being patient when things get difficult. When her father lost his job, being patient and optimistic helped her get through it.

Alyssa Collins is a journalism student who hopes to be a magazine editor some day. As a long-time daydreamer, she finds inspiration in looking to the future and believing the best is yet to come.
When she’s not at school or work, Alyssa can be found at the gym, on a run or taking a yoga class. Her dedication to staying active is what makes Alyssa tough.
